ZP 2100 on the PAPER TRAIN
Rebuilt ZB loco 2100 was once the main power, together with 2101, for the paper train. After the arrival of the DQ class locomotives its use on the paper train has been spasmodic, and I think this would be one of the first times it has been run with a D class. Being the trailing locomotive on the northbound runs means it gets covered in diesel exhaust thru the Rhyndaston tunnel, but this loco has been shabby looking for a couple of years. Here the train is crossing the Blythe River east of Burnie, in company with D 2021 and DQ 2007. 22nd September 2002.
Now 2100 has had the illuminated number boxes plated over, with the plating appearing to extend down to the left of the window. Shame on Tasrail for not cleaning this loco before it was repaired. Shown here at Lonah.
Close up and wide angle view of the train climbing the Don hill.
Passing Railton station, the D class towers over the 2100.
The almost black face of 2100 as it passes the old Moltema platform. A fresh coat of paint, and a new set of numbers applied with a bit more care than these would make a huge difference to this real workhorse of the system. To see a video of this scene CLICK HERE
The ZP1 number is still visible in the rear number boxes. This engine has been renumbered four times since coming to Tasmania.
The clean and tidy face of ZR1, as it was numbered after the extensive rebuild in South Australia. Here it is on its first showing to the public at the Tasrail open day, April 1996.
Perhaps one day..........

near Lonah. Leven River Nearing the top of the Don Hill At Devonport the Z locos were removed, so that they could run
the afternoon container train to Hobart. The paper train continued on with just the DQ running,
and the loading was right at the limit for a single DQ.
