Queen Victoria Museum
Here are just a few photos of the QVM Inveresk site. This new division of the
Museum has been built on the site of the old railway workshops.

Y3 has been cosmetically restored and looks a fine sight.

Sound recordings of Y6 at Don River were taken and will be used on board Y3 to
give it authentic sounds.

This carriage, class AAL, number 8 was formerly used as a mobile museum
but had been stored at the Don River for some time, its last use was during
the EBR centenary celebrations in 1997.
It has now been externally restored but has had one end removed so that it can be used as
a tea room in the museum.

Today the carriage is being moved from the paint shop to the display area of the site.
I thought those lifting chains looked light, but they did the job.

The Don River also have one of these carriages, AAL 11 which I have found to be a very nice
carriage to ride in, with very
comfortable upholstery and appointments. Pity this carriage wasn't
restored to its former glory, especially as there is a shortage of
good rolling stock for Tasmania's mainline passenger operations.

A glimpse inside AAL11, which is currently being refurbished by the Don
River Inveresk Division, which is right next door to the Queen Victoria Museum.

Check and compare the bend in the carriage compared to the first photo.
