First train at the new station

Sunday April 15 2001 was a big day for Penguin, as the rebuilt station was officially opened. A small crowd was present to welcome the first train of the day, railcar DP22 from Don.

Dubs arriving

A huge crowd was on hand to meet and greet the special train. The organisers had their hands full keeping the track clear.

On the platform

Don River Railway volunteer Geoff Brown worked on the Dubs No. 8 when it was in service on the Emu Bay Railway 40 years ago.

875

To the west of Penguin lies Howth where there is a Pivot fertilizer depot. Very little fertilizer is carried by rail in Tasmania now but when this picture was taken much of the supply was. Alco 830 class leader 875 was at work on this day, probably in 1983
