D CLASS AT WORK

Pictures taken 15th and 19th November 2001.

After the initial test runs the D class engines began working the paper train, but were then relegated to trailing units because of a noise problem. ( Described as a buffeting similar to driving your car with the back windows open) After more testing they are now back on the paper train as lead units. The following photos show the train on two different days in November.

2004

15 Nov 2001. Near Lonah, between Penguin and Ulverstone. This is a great mix of locomotives, 2004 is an ex Queensland GM rebuilt in New Zealand, the D class ex Western Australia, a GM unit rebuilt in New Zealand, with EE traction motors fitted in Tasmania, and an ex Queensland EE unit 2101 rebuilt in Tasmania.

2020

19 Nov 2001. Four days later both D class are on the train, again with 2101 dead attached. 2101 would have led the northbound train, but is not needed on the lightly laden southbound.
