Welcome to this unofficial Don River Railway page.
The Don River Railway runs trains every day except Good Friday and Christmas Day.
Tasrail donated one of the ex EBR 10 class locomotives to the Don River Railway. The loco celebrated 40 years in Tasmania in August 2003 and to celebrate this it was to run a passenger train on the Don River Railway. However the engine was not operable at the time nonetheless it was attached to a working hauled by diesel V2. The loco had been kept on site at Burnie as a spare until the end of vacuum brake haulage on the Melba line. Also following are a few photos taken on April 15 2002, when the Don River sent down Y6, a flat wagon and their van DZ2 to pick it up.
At the Station
Video cameras everywhere
V2 pushing at the rear
Passing "Rotten Row"

Approaching the Station
A rather grubby 1002 is pulled from the storage siding at Burnie.
The train was then taken up the workshop road
A spare set of wheels came with the loco, here they are being loaded.
The wheels on 1002 are rather thin.
The last 10 class on site, 1003. This loco has since been vandalised, and all windows have been smashed out. Updated Sep 9 2003
