Last update November 2001
A development that has been under way for a couple of years is the Inveresk complex of the DON RIVER RAILWAY. In the last few months renewed enthusiasm has seen this new shed for restoration and locomotive servicing go ahead and it is now almost complete.
The shed is in the grounds of the INVERESK RAILYARDS redevelopment scheme. This site was once the Launceston terminus of the rail system, but with the building of new workshops at East Tamar, Tasrail left the area and it has since been redeveloped under the better cities scheme. The old signal box has been preserved, this box is at the entrance to the yard and also contolled the line to the North East, a remnant of same is on the right.
The INVERESK site lies behind one of Launcestons flood levees, in time of floods the yellow striped gate slides to the left after two short sections of track are removed.
Other tenants at Inveresk include the Queen Victoria museum, who have an extensive display of ex TGR rolling stock on display
