D CLASS FEATURE PAGE
GEORGETOWN
All pics taken 15 June 2001
Waiting at the west end of the Georgetown yard. Technically,
Georgetown is now part of the Bell Bay yard. Because of the restricted layout on the wharf,
the engines and a 20 wagon load of containers have been pushed
up the grade from the wharf. This I suspect is a common method of working, and on this day it
looked as if our new locos were leading the train.
At the rear, three ZB locos were doing the pushing.
Two engines were sent up from Launceston to haul the Dclass locos back to town.
Leading this group was DC4588, followed by DQ 2012. This train had a very mixed set of locos..,
from New Zealand, Queensland and Western Australia!
