After months of waiting, the former Westrail D class locomotives
have arrived in Tasmania after their extensive rebuild at the Hutt workshops of
Tranzrail in New Zealand.
The heavy lift ship PIJLGRACHT arrived in the Tamar river
early on Friday 15 June with the locomotives on board. Here it is tied up at No. 6
berth at Bell bay, on a beautiful calm and sunny winter morning.
The bogies are in place ready for 2021

2020, the "class leader"
The Tasrail numbering system follows,
it seems, no hard and fast rules. The system now has basically 6 main groups of
locos, the DQ, D, ZP/ZR, Z/ZA, ZB, ZC, Y & the ex EBR 10/11 classes.
The class "leaders" for each are:
DQ=2001, D=2020, ZP/ZR=2100, Z/ZA=2110, ZB=2120, ZC=2140, Y=2150.
EBR 10 class=1001. EBR 11 class=1101
