The Don River Railway ran a steam special to Burnie 0n the 21st August 2005. The train was hauled by Pacific
M4. It was a wet and windy Sunday, here are a few photos of the train travelling along the coast, with a closer look at the Leven River Bridge at Ulverstone.
The loco was not too heavily loaded and
made easy work of Don Hill
The safety valves blew as the train came past this tree which is now a real pain for photographers!
The wet weather made for plenty of steam
Crossing the Leven bridge. This bridge is subject to
a speed restriction and was under repair a few weeks ago
Close up of one of the joints on this bridge, which may have been
the focus of recent attention
A closer look at one of the joints showing the reinforcing bars
This even closer look shows how some of the concrete is cracking away
How the bridge looked with temporary handrails as fitted during the time the
bridge or track was being worked on.
At Lonah
Through the flowers at Penguin
A rough sea at Sulphur Creek Beach
Running under the pipelines and conveyors at the Burnie paper mill.
The points under the engine lead to the coal siding. Arrival at Burnie was about 10 minutes early.
