2004 FAILS
DQ class locomotive 2004 failed while helping hauling the Coal Train No.46 from Fingal
on Tuesday October 6 2003.
This is the view of the locomotive at Conara Junction, it looks like the doors have been blown open.
The engine suffered a crankcase explosion. This view shows
smoke still drifting from the blown off top cover
The crankcase inspection cover was nowhere to be seen.
A close up of the crankcase.
D class 2021 then hauled the stricken DQ and the coal wagons
to Western Junction.
Here 2021 is passing under the Midlands Highway at Powranna.
Climbing out of Evandale on the approach to Western Junction.
Tasrail were on the ball and were able to supply another set of engines (2101 & 2008) for the Coal train,
they arrived at Western Junction at almost the same time.
2021 shunting before heading for East Tamar with 2004. Apparently four engines equipped for Driver
Only Operation (DOO) are currently broken down.
Now approaching Perth, Train 46's engines are blowing some smoke on the grade.
